But a new study commissioned by Slimming World shows low-carb diets endorsed by celebrities can cause dieters to put on weight in the long run.
But it seems we still look to celebrities for diet advice: a recent YouGov poll found that 37pc of dieters had tried a celebrity-backed low-carb diet like Atkins or the Ketogenic diet, with around two-thirds believing that cutting carbs helps with weight-loss and 35pc believing weight loss is impossible without reducing carbohydrates.
