A day of reckoning for AT&T, Time Warner Inc. — and the Justice Department

Nearly 20 months ago, telecommunications giant AT&T unveiled its $85.4-billion deal to buy Time Warner Inc., parent of CNN, HBO, TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. — Hollywood’s biggest producer of movies and TV shows. Then-candidate Donald Trump, on the campaign trail, criticized the merger as giving one company too much power. He vowed that his administration would block the deal.
